There’s no denying that white manicures are a staple for both summer and the cold months of winter. Somehow, the color feels as hot as it does crisp and clean. That’s exactly why it works so well in mid-fall. The skies are gray, the temperatures are edging toward frost, and it’s the perfect moment to ease into a fresh white set. The shade is also a classic for nail art—from French tips to polka dots, it plays well with any style. If you’re ready to switch things up, consider trying one of the chic manicures below.

Winter White Nail Ideas to Try This Season
Classic French Tips
French tips are one of those classics that never lose their charm, even during the winter. “Clean, crisp and elegant, they’re the perfect choice for clients who want something festive without going full sparkle,” says Scottsdale-based nail artist Sofiia Mazur.
Polka Dots & Chrome
Chrome manicures have solidified their spot in salons. But if you want to take your set to the next level, consider adding a smattering of snow white polka dots. It’s an easy design to recreate and can even spruce up an old manicure. For this look, Mazur used a simple dotting tool and Redi’s White Smile French Gel Paint, but you can also use an opaque traditional polish such as DND’s Perfect White Diva.
Reverse French Manicure
We love a French cuff in any color. However, this white set is elite. With contrasting finishes, it leans into the monochromatic look and makes us itch for the first snowfall of the season.
Flurries & Flakes
Snowflake nails are always a winter vibe. This manicure pairs intricate flakes with delicate flurries to create a stormy design. While you can use any color for the base, a rose-toned polish adds to the look’s softness.
Milky White
While optic and opaque shades are lovely, a milky white manicure feels soft and much more approachable this time of year. Adding a subtle shimmer only intensifies the effect. “Nails.INC It’s Topless polish in the shade Sydney has a hint of sparkle that softens the starkness of pure white to create a luminous finish,” says Thea Green, founder of the nail polish brand.
Glitter Ombré
Glitter ombré is the holiday manicure that refuses to stay quiet this season. Blending shimmer into a white polish creates a chic effect like a tiny snowfall across the nails. Instead of heavy glitter, she recommends using a light glittery polish on top of a crisp white, such as Mineral Fusion’s Ice Breaker, to emphasize the diffused effect.
Wintergreen
This chic set is the perfect look for manicure minimalists. It features a soft white polish and tiny dots of mint green. The combination feels inherently wintery and even has a clean, freshly fallen-snow look. “Pure white and mint green are a refreshing contrast to deeper skin tones and highlight the skin’s natural richness by creating visual brightness and dimension,” says Lin. She recommends Sunday’s No. 01 and No. 44 to recreate the look.
White on White French Manicure
White is a staple French manicure shade, but when doubled down to create a white-on-white design, the color really shines. To nail this look, be sure to use a polish with a crisp finish, such as Dazzle Dry White Lightning and one with a sheerer consistency.
Wintery Mix
Cool tones, such as gray, slate and taupe, are perfect this time of year. “Earthy neutrals work well with white and can elevate the simple shade,” says Lin. Instead of settling for just one, try sporting them all in a mixed manicure.
3D Design
If you’re new to 3D nail art or any form of textured manicures, using white as a backdrop is a good place to start. This manicure is the perfect balance between clean and eccentric and is the true definition of nail art.
