For Carly Guerra, a breast cancer diagnosis became more than a health challenge; it was a moment that redefined her entire sense of self. “A cancer diagnosis transforms someone’s life,” she says. “It’s a punctuation point moment that can feel as though everything in your life has stopped while the world around you is continuing to move forward. It not only changes your body but also shifts your sense of self. After a diagnosis, investing time and energy into thoughtful wellness is a way to rebuild trust with your body, rebuild emotional and physical scar and reclaim beauty rituals.”

As a longtime beauty executive, Guerra was used to helping others feel empowered through self-care. But when her own diagnosis arrived, she found herself navigating unfamiliar territory. “I struggled with a feeling that I was losing a part of who I was,” she admits. “The life routine that I knew was essentially taken from me and I needed to find a way to reclaim who I had been and who I was becoming. My personal rituals helped me recognize that this transformative experience truly showed me how strong and resilient I am.”

That resilience took shape through a series of small, intentional acts, which she now calls her “wellness rituals.” Guerra’s post-recovery routine became a sacred practice in reconnecting to her body and spirit. “For a post wellness routine, the good news is there is so much available,” she explains. “My recommendation is to incorporate a 360-routine that feels right for what you need. Everyone’s journey is personal and unique.”

For her, that includes full-body massages for relaxation (introduced only after she fully healed from surgery), yoga for grounding and flexibility, and daily meditation—even just ten minutes—to clear the mind. Nature also plays a key role. “Spending time in nature, for me, this is Central Park, given that I live in Manhattan, helps me energetically remember to practice being present in every moment,” she says. “This was one of the best pieces of advice I was given from one of the medical facilities: to enjoy every moment, no matter what is happening. Look around and appreciate the beauty of life.”

And then there’s the ritual at the heart of her brand, SAVOIR. “SAVOIR Beauty Breast Ritual puts me at ease knowing I am being proactive every day in my breast wellness and beauty,” she adds. What began as a personal act of care has evolved into a meaningful mission to help other women reclaim a sense of beauty and control over their own bodies.

Emotionally, Guerra describes recovery as a deeply layered process—one that requires vulnerability, patience and support. “It is truly a journey and it is so important to rely on the support that you have in your life,” she says. “For me, I called in my full team. Family, friends, social workers affiliated with the hospital where I was embarking on my journey, and an incredible not-for-profit organization called Cancer and Careers. This organization was pivotal in helping me navigate my career after being diagnosed and I am so grateful to the caring talent throughout the organization that provides such a valuable service.”

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, SAVOIR is giving back: “For the month of October, SAVOIR is donating $5 for every Beauty Breast Serum sold to Cancer and Careers,” she shares.

When asked what she would say to women just beginning their recovery journey, Guerra’s response is both compassionate and grounding. “Take everything one moment at a time. It is not one day at a time, it is one moment at a time,” she says. “Breast cancer impacts one in every eight women and 10% of these women are under the age of 45. So many of us are united by this experience, but it’s important to remember that everyone’s breast cancer journey is unique. It is key to be gentle with yourself physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Navigate what is best for your personal wellness journey and what makes you feel your best.”

Throughout her recovery, beauty became both anchor and inspiration. “When I was diagnosed, I felt my life was no longer in my control. Looking at the facts, in a way this was partially true and I had to accept that reality for a period of time,” Guerra reflects. “Being an executive in the beauty industry for the past 18 years, feeling beautiful and regaining my beauty rituals was a critical part of my cancer recovery. Beauty routines are a part of who I am and were a catalyst in the founding of SAVOIR. The launch of this brand is a silver lining in this experience, that I am able to bring breast beauty to all women and pioneer a very important category to the beauty industry.”
