Maybe it’s the (elder) millennial in me, but whenever any of my favorite Friends talk beauty, I listen. Luckily, over the last few years Courteney Cox has emerged as one of my favorite “influencers.” The Scream actress routinely shares her favorite tips and products on social media with a healthy dose of humor, like when she wore this red light therapy hat to promote hair growth as she turned 60, or during her most recent GRWM video that’s chock full of charming anecdotes Gen-Xers will undoubtedly appreciate, like how to rehabilitate two decades worth of over-plucked brows. (Cox loves microblading and the Kosas Air Brow gel [$25], in case you were wondering.)
And while she may not remember much of filming Friends, Cox does remember when Dermalogica’s Cleansing Gel made its way into Monica Geller’s bathroom in season seven, because to this day Cox counts Dermalogica’s cleansers, retinols, moisturizers, sunscreens and exfoliators as her favorites.
I, personally, always associate Monica with the mid-’90s mocha mega-matte lip liner. Cox’s current lip pick: The Lip Liner ($24) by cult-favorite Swedish makeup brand, Sweed Beauty. Sweed’s soft, velvety and vegan formula glides on lips smoothly for precise shaping or as a base to extend lipstick wear. Its barely-there texture and color-rich staying power is Cox’s go-to secret for fuller, lifted lips without the overdone look.
Makeup artist and Sweed Beauty founder Gabriella Elio isn’t surprised by the comeback of lip liners, especially among millennials hitting their 40s and Gen Xers embracing beauty over 50. “Our lips lose volume and the contour fades as we age—I love to use lip liner [Elio’s preferred shade is Cindy] to frame and reshape my lips to bring back a beautiful pout!”
